Our Work
2009
ACT received its 501(c)(3) status and successfully mentored its first class of 14 students from the School of Hope, a special-needs school for vulnerable youth in South Africa. Students were carefully paired with New York City professionals who matched their career and personal interests.
During the year, we organized two impACT trips* for volunteers to visit the School of Hope in South Africa. There, volunteers funded and assisted with the school prom and helped on projects initiated by SOH’s sponsor organization, the Thembalitsha Foundation.

To complete the cross-cultural experience, we sponsored 9 of the 14 students to visit New York City in December 2009 for their NY interACTive experience to meet their mentors, broaden their horizons and embark on job shadowing opportunities. This first year has been a successful and rewarding experience for mentors and mentees alike.

*All travel and trip related expenses were funded entirely by trip participants.
2010
In 2010 we doubled our program size by expanding our program to the Grade 11 class at the School of Hope!
2011
In 2011, we hosted an unprecedented 2 NY interACTive experiences! Ten students from the Class of 2010 came for the experience of their lives in February and hosted a moving Gala in the heart of NYC, Times Square.
In July, the Class of 2011 came in the middle of their Grade 12 year to bring the dynamic impact of this experience back to their school and energized to finish their high school educations strong. The results? A 100% graduation rate for this class!
